Sustainable Tourism is essentially an industry committed to making a low impact on the natural environment and local culture, while helping to generate income and employment for local people. As Global economists forecast continuing international tourism growth, this continuous growth will place great stress on remaining biologically diverse habitats and indigenous cultures, which are often used to support mass tourism. Therefore it is important that sustainable tourism is promoted and that people are educated about the opportunities provided in order to minimize the effects that tourism poses on the natural environment while helping to benefit local communities.…

My original goal for the first day was to stop for the night in Green River, UT so we'd be close to our destination the next morning. Unfortunately, the Motel 6 was booked solid for the night. I checked Grand Junction and not only did the Motel 6 have rooms available, but it was $20/night cheaper than Green River. Over the years of traveling with my beasts, I've decided that Motel 6 best fits our needs. Not only are they exceptionally dog friendly, but also very reasonably priced (dogs stay free at most which saves a lot) - they may be a bit spartan for some but fit our travel needs very well.…

The question of sustainable development has become a major issue of the 21st century notably due to the climate change. While the original call for sustainable development in Bruntland Report (which goal was to unite countries to pursue sustainable development together) discussed the application of the principles, tourism was not specially discussed’ (Hall, 1998) Yet, there has been an increasing recognition of the role that tourism could play in sustainable development. As it is a driving force of the economy and a powerful instrument of development, it has a role to play to limit its negative impacts whether they are cultural, environmental or economic. That is to say, adopting the principles of sustainable development to tourism. ‘Sustainable tourism is an extension of the concept of sustainable development” (J.Swarbrooke, 1999). The sustainable development is defined in the Bruntland Report as’ a development which meets our needs today without compromising the ability of people in the…

The report examines sustainability in hotel industry, as how important it has become, for a firm or organisation to become environmentally sustainable in today’s world. After global warming, everyone has become more cautious about environment, more organisations have realised responsibility towards environment. Since, hotel industry and tourism industry are inter-linked, which serve consumers viz. Service industry i.e. where one succeeds and fail based on customer satisfaction. It becomes important to cater to customers who are more environmentally conscious than ever. Sustainability has become topic of interest even at Government level, so it becomes obvious for every international organisation to be responsible.…

When considering the ecological, economic, social and cultural dimensions, sustainable urban tourism is multifaceted and different criteria apply. Savage et al emphasize the need to incorporate a comprehensive range of these dimensions in considering sustainable urban tourism. Theoretically, it is difficult to attain sustainable tourism because the tradeoffs in one area may offset the success in another. The authors provide Singapore River as an example in two ways. First, the ecological goal of maintaining Singapore River clean is attained by sacrificing the very social, cultural and economic life of characteristic riverine activities. Second, continued economic growth at the river by tourism leads to a gradual displacement of traditional cultural activities and social communities. Therefore, it is necessary to take a holistic view on the subject in order to gauge the sustainability of urban tourism development. The authors also note that continual reassessment is required in the issue of sustainability and sustainability can never be said to have been achieved.…

Tourism is the world’s largest and fasted growing economic activity. It consists of a multitude of both positive and negative impacts on people’s lives and the biophysical environment. A suitable balance must be established between the environmental, social and economic impacts of tourism in order to ensure its long-term sustainability and in prosperity as a mutually beneficial economic activity on a global and national scale. Strategic intent refers to the sense came up with by the leaders, which of their expected achievement and direction of the company (Pearce & Robinson, 2015). Good Hotel is known for its intent to be the first hotel with conscience, which guides the hotel with “positive approach, environmental sensitivity and philanthropy” to inspire the “good in us all”. JdV’s leadership is consistent with Good Hotel’s intent through the safety and green programs as well as the environmentally initiatives. The general manager from JdV does have clear and deep understanding of the Good Hotel’s strategic understanding as she makes a lot of efforts on the greening programs in the hotel. As an OJT practicumer I learned lots of knowledge by doing my assigned task. I was assigned in Concierge Department, in Concierge Department we are responsible in taking care of the baggage and other things of our guest. In 38 days of staying and having an OJT in Mariott Hotel and Resorts, I learned the importance of great impression. Because in our industry which is the Tourism Industry, our impression to our guest is very important. Just “show simple smile, be friendly and approachable with them it will give a good impact and also it encourage the guest to comeback again in our establishment. Another one is the safety and security of the guest and also of their belongings. We all know that safety and security is the priority of our industry and the number one standards of a guest before staying in one place (where they are safe from danger or not) .Another one is the passion for service, a passion means having a passion for something and having a strong interest in it and like it very much. In this matter, I realize that we must have a passion in our works so we can do and done it very well. And at the same time were enjoying, because we loved what we’re doing even if this is hard nor easy. And last but not the least is courtesy to our valued guest. This kind of action must implement and develop in one of each personnel that are involved in Tourism Industry. This kind of action or act are consist of four aspects, first one is politeness, second one is respect, third one is consideration to others and the last one is having a good manner. Those four standards and others aspects I said is very important and needed because it helps to have and build a good communication and relationship to our beloved guest.…
