A series of masses were placed on either side of the pulley, released from rest and allowed to accelerate a distance of at least 40 cm. The velocity of the system was plotted vs. time, the acceleration determined from the slope of the least-squares line. Initially, the total mass in the system was kept constant, beginning with 200 grams on each side. After each trial, 20 grams from one side was transferred to the other. For the second part of the experiment, the difference between the two masses was kept at a constant 20 grams, adding an equal amount of mass to each side.…

Purpose: The purpose of the practical is to find how mass affects acceleration and how it affects also the force of the accelerating body. To do this we are going to do the ticker tape experiment where an accelerating body pulls a tape through a consistent 50 dot per second ticker timer. The acceleration body in this experiment will be a small trolley pulled by a string that is pulled by the downfall of different masses which will then tell how mass affects acceleration.…

Vectors can be represented geometrically by arrows in 2- or 3-space; the direction of the arrow specifies the direction of the vector and the length of the arrow describes its magnitude. The first point in the arrow is called the initial point of the vector and the tip is called the terminal point. We shall denote vectors in lower case boldface type such as [pic] when using one letter to name the vector, and will use [pic] to denote the vector from A to B.…

All of us have the ability to move. Knowing how to describe motion is an important first step in understanding the underlying physics that governs changes in motion. We see changes in motion all the time, as we go to work or school, participate in sports or even wander around our homes. If we never changed our own motion, we would never make it out of bed in the morning. The study of motion and of physical concepts such as force and mass is called Dynamics. Kinematics is one of the topics under dynamics. Kinematics describes motion without regard to its causes. In this experiment, kinematics focuses in one dimension: a motion along a straight line. This kind of motion, involves velocity, displacement, and acceleration with regards to time. The objectives of the experiment are to draw the displacement versus time graphs and velocity versus time graphs for uniform motion and uniformly accelerated motion, and to determine one’s normal reaction time and his reaction time while being distracted by others.…
