House Of The Scorpion Character Analysis
The main character of “The House of the Scorpion” is Matt. Matt is hopeful, loyal, and smart.

Matt is hopeful because he was in a cold cell abused both physically and verbally by a servant named Rose and was starting to accept his faith as a clone. Suddenly, he started hoping to be saved by Celia, his caregiver, or any other kind person. He hoped for three years, and never gave up hope.

Matt is loyal because he doesn’t take advantage of anyone and if they treated him properly, he would treat them the same way. He doesn’t talk about people behind their backs or tell anyone things he shouldn’t be saying. For example, he keeps secrets that María and Celia tells him. One of the secrets is that Celia put salt in Tom’s hot chocolate.

Matt is smart because he thinks ahead and learns quickly. When Matt was given proper lessons from a proper teacher, he learned things quicker than most children would. Matt also started playing the piano by himself and with the help of a teacher he became a really talented player. He thinks ahead by knowing not to ask Emilia, Steven, and María to colour or eat with him, as he knows they will find out the food and colouring books are stolen from them.

When Matt was brought to the Big House, he found out that he was a clone of El Patrón, one of the most powerful people in the country. Afterwards, he was brought to Rose, a servant, to be taken care of. Just like most other people in the house, she treated Matt poorly. For example, she gave him deep litter that he was allergic to and she also both verbally and physically abusing him. It wasn’t until one day, when Celia was passing by and saw Matt. She had not been informed that Matt was in a cold cell and had El Patrón get Matt out. Virtually every single person in the house only treated Matt properly when El Patrón is present and tries to avoid Matt as much as

My judgement is that Matt should love Maria the reason I think Matt should love her is because she is the only one around his age that likes him And doesn't think he's bad because he's a clone. In the story, it says“Is she you're little girlfriend? Why shouldn't Maria be his girlfriend?” (109) This shows that Matt likes Maria and he wants her to be his girlfriend. He is also feeling a little jealous because he doesn't see anything wrong with Maria being his girlfriend. Another reason I think This is true is because on it states “One more thing, Matt said. I demand a birthday kiss.”(109) When Matt said that and asked for the kiss it…

The three people I think that mainly accept Matt for himself are Celia, Tam Lin, and Maria. In this story Nancy Farmer says many things about friendship. Friends are never apart maybe in distance, but never in heart. I believe this is the overall message she is trying to say. Throughout the story Matt has to learn that some people aren’t going to be his friend and that he needs to be thankful for the friends he has or has had. Celia, Tam Lin, and Maria show that they really care about him as the story moves…

Between RUDE and NICE, for example” (191). Mattie wasn’t fond of Johnny’s attitude towards her and replied with sarcastic remarks, especially when being ordered around the kitchen. When asked what was in her shoofly pie, Mattie replied saying that niceness is what made them popular.
