Acting in the best interest of the service user is the basis of the work the Housing First team meeting clients needs to the best of their ability. It is within the client’s rights to expect care workers to work under legislation and policies such as the CORU codes of profession conduct and ethics, Health and Social care professionals Act 2005 and Mental Health Act 2001. Upon my opening days at Housing First, I read through the policies file and gained an understanding of different guidelines legislations before meeting clients. One evening I noticed one of our clients sitting in a shop doorway in the rain. It took me by surprise seeing him there as he had just been moved into his own house on the suburbs of the city. He is a middle age man who has a history of alcohol dependency. When I approached him he said he was tapping for money for a box of tobacco, he said he had gotten his social welfare allowance that morning and had already spent it all. I noticed that in the moment when I was talking to him I felt myself wanting to buy him a hot drink or something from the shop. I then had to stop myself wanting to offer this to him as I wanted to act in as a professional not as a friend and it was his choice to sit in the rain. I reminded the client to stay warm and dry and I continued on. I found it difficult in this situation to keep walking as I had worked with the client for many weeks and it concerned me to see him in them circumstances on the day he had got
