The sports stadium was the first domed stadium in the US which was remarkably built with indoor air conditioning and Astroturf (HRSG, 2015, 152). As first of its type, the dome is 18 stories high, has a diameter of 710 feet, and sits on approximately 10 acres. The Astrodome is also a multi-purpose structure since it was designed to host all kinds of events such as football, soccer, baseball, and track and field events (HRSG, 2015, 152). Nevertheless, the Astrodome was closed in 2008 after inspectors found innumerable code violations which threatened sports fans or anyone inside. The dome holds historical and artistic value as the first domed stadium. Its design will remain relevant for future use. But with advancements in technology, engineers are now able to make stadiums with retracting roofs.
