How Adversity Changed My Life

The sound of breaking glass and angry screams filled second story of my suburban home. Terrified, I fetched my siblings and went outside to escape from the hostility, if only for a few minutes. After some time, I heard the front door slam and my father’s truck zoom down the street. Later, I went upstairs and found my mother weeping; I have seen no one so sad. I saw the remains of what had been elegant wedding photos in pieces on the floor and sensed heartbreak in the air. At the time, I was only an eighth grader, but I would mature considerably in the coming months. My parents had argued, as they often did, due to my father’s alcoholism. My mother had given him two options: us or the booze. He chose the latter and my life has been forever changed. My mother has always been our rock; she kept our lives as normal as possible. There is no question of her love and loyalty to us. Bradley, Grace, Owen, and I never feared she would desert us as our father had. It became difficult for her to support our comfortable lifestyle;
Hence, why I refuse to consider myself victim. Conquering adversity has been no small feat. But, it is the reason for which I want to turn my passion and resiliency into a fruitful career as an attorney. It is because of my life experiences I trust in my abilities because I realize how extraordinary and impactful they can be. I vow to treat every individual I meet with compassion because I understand what it feels like to have your world turned upside-down. My goal for every client will be to guide them through the legal system with confidence and offer a sense of comfort during trying times; with hopes they may too overcome their difficult situation. The law is the most guaranteed way of achieving justice and seeking truth. An education from SCHOOL will prepare me to rise to this challenge.
