Beowulf is helpful to the Danes by freeing them from their 12 long years of panic and terror. He lends his services and defeats the monster Grendel to save the kingdom from it's restless rain of destruction. In the text it said, " He was happy, / Now, with that night's fierce work; the Danes / Had been served as he'd boasted he'd serve them; / Beowulf, / A prince of the Geats, had killed Grendel, / Ended the grief, the sorrow, the suffering / Forced on Hrothgar's helpless people / By a bloodthirsty fiend. " (Lines 508 -514). Beowulf brought peace and tranquility back to Herot. He is a daring man who goes up against a Dragon even though it breaths burning hot fire and poison pours from it's tongue. In the story is proves that, " Then Beowulf rose, still brave, still strong / And with his shield at his side, and a mail shirt on his breast, / Strode calmly, confidently, toward the tower, under / The rocky cliffs: no coward could have walked there! " (Lines 688 - 691). Afterwards, most of his comrades abandon him, yet he bravely continues to fight for his people. In the poem it proves that, " Flames beat at the iron / Shield, and for a time it held, protected / Beowulf as he'd planned; then it began to melt, / And for the first time in his life that famous prince / Fought with fate against him, with glory / Denied him. He knew it, but he raised his sword / And struck at the dragon's scaly hide." (Lines 720 - 726). Beowulf's' bold actions were not easy decisions, but he stood by his
