One key contributor to World War I was the formation of alliances. By 1914 Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy had formed an alliance, called the Triple Alliance and Great Britain, France and Russia had formed another alliance, called the Triple Entente. After the assassination the Archduke of Austria, Austria wants and apology from Serbia, this makes Serbia angry. Russia then promises Serbia help, making an alliance. On July 28 1914, Austria declares war on Austria-Hungary. Russia being alliance with Serbia then declares war on Austria-Hungary. Since Austria-Hungary was part of the Triple Alliance Germany goes and declares war on Russia. France and Great Britain then rush to their ally Russia’s side and declare war with Germany and Austria-Hungary. Because of the alliances a conflict between two countries grew into a war involving between eight European countries.…
Otto von Bismarck created the idea of alliances because he did not want to fight a war on two fronts and he wanted other countries to help him: “When negotiations failed, he developed an alliance with Austria-Hungary and Italy which became known as the triple alliance. In response, France and Russia and Great Britain formed an alliance known as the Triple Entente” (Background essay). Both alliances created plans because they were paranoid that the other alliance would start a war. Alliances influenced WWI to occur because it made countries bolder in the war since they had other countries to support…
Alliance systems were also a leading cause of World War 1, this is where certain nations form alliances and fight with each other against whoever they are going to war against. Document A shows that Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy joined forces to…
One of the main reasons that started a chain reaction leading into WW1, was the alliances throughout Europe. Although in reality if the alliances weren't in effect then WW1 would not have happened, but the assassination of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne was the event that led into chaos. The alliances were a major part, although they would never have needed to come into play if there had not been a trigger to these attacks. Off all of the 4 M.A.I.N (Militarism, Imperialism, Nationalism, Alliances) the factor that contributed the most to the outbreak of WWI (World War I) was the alliances, because if they were not in effect there would be no trigger to start wars.…
Another underlying cause of WWI were alliances because when alliances are made by certain countries, other countries are threatened and then they make their own alliances to have protection, then the previous alliance feels threatened by the new alliance. An example of this would be document 4, which is a political cartoon. It shows a bunch of men from different countries pointing at one another. They are accusing one another of starting the war. It also shows how countries would gang up on one country so the country getting pressured, gets help from other countries.…
The War to End All Wars, a very misleading name, considering the amount of people against each other. Those countries did not fight separately, they were well allied. Alliances are unions formed for mutual benefit, associations made between countries, organizations, or individuals. While many alliances were made public and other countries knew who stood behind who, some were secret affairs. Certain alliances in World War One were an important cause of expanded conflict between nations.…
Alliances were the biggest unseen contributor to the start of World War 1. The Triple Alliance was formed by Germany Austria hungry and Italy; England France and Russia formed the Triple entente. These were the most powerful countries in Europe in 1914. (Document A) These alliances place soon to be enemies directly next to one another increasing tensions among countries. These alliances also caused most of Europe to be involved in a localized and insignificant problem between Austria Hungary and Serbia. When no one took responsibility everyone put the blame on…
| 1.) Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Russia got involved to defend Serbia. Germany seeing Russia mobilizing, declared war on Russia, fearing an attack from the north. France was then drawn in against Germany and Austria-Hungary. Germany attacked France through Belgium pulling Britain into war because of location. Then Japan entered the war. Later, Italy and the United States would enter on the side of the allies.2.) It ruined the Schlieffen Plan once and for all, France would not be knocked out in six weeks, and all hopes of a shot war were dashed.3.) The Germans would have to face full scale war on two fronts, which they had never intended. 1.) The First Battle of the Marne effectively halted the German offensive towards Paris and thereby keeping France in the war. Both the Allies and the Germans suffered a tremendous amount of casualties and were quite exhausted. 2.) There was time for the British navy to bring its crippling blockade to bear on Germany's port. 3.) The immediate cause of America's entry into World War 1 in April 1917 was the German announcement of unrestricted submarine warfare, and the subsequent sinking of ships with Americans on board (the…
Alliances are important in any war because the members of alliance will support the country when support is needed. Alliances involve teaming up against another side to the battle, and this forces that side to ally with other countries to fight, this leading up to WWI. However nationalism in the Balkans may have also lead up to WWI, due to the growing pride from the different ethnic groups living in the Balkan ,in which they revolted and weakened the Ottoman Empire. Although Militarism could have also helped cause tension between the two sides, alliances and Balkan nationalism are important factors involving WWI. The alliance between Great Britain, France and Russia created a bigger threats on Germany and Balkan nationalism helped create tension…
Alliances cause tension between countries. After Ferdinand was assassinated, allies of Austria-Hungary put themselves into the war due to treaties. Due to the allied countries of Austria-Hungary, the Allies joined the war against them. Also, Germany rapidly built up its military with new technology and more manpower. During World War I, there were economic issues.…
A number of alliances had been signed by countries between the years 1879 and 1914. These were important because they meant that some countries had no option but to declare war if one of their allies declared war first. An example of this comes from a Chicago Tribune article labeled “The Crime of the Ages. Who did it?” Where all of the nations are declaring war on each other because of their allies, causing a chain reaction of war declarations due to the start of it when Serbia had war declared on them by Austria-Hungary. (Doc. 4) Now Europe had much tension as the battle line was drawn with Central Powers being Germany and Austria-Hungary on one side and Allies consisting of many nations like Great Britain, France, and Russia with Italy joining later. Italy had been a member of the Triple Alliance with Germany and Austria-Hungary. However, the Italians joined the other side after accusing their former partners of unjustly starting the war. (Doc. 3)…
I honestly believe alliances was the main reason for World War I because of all the different countries who were allies with each other. For example, Germany had an alliance with Austria-Hungary who could have had other alliances with different countries who Germany didn’t associate with or who they had issues with. The war actually started with Austria-Hungary’s Archduke Franz Ferdinand being assassinated by Serbia but because of all the alliances, everyone had a different point of view on who started everything. Majority of the people except Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Serbia thought Germany was the one who started the war those are a few reasons why the alliance systems caused World War…
There was a lot of different alliances in the war such as; The Alliances between Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Italy, Along with the allied powers (France, Great Britain, and Russia), and then there was the neutral nations. Why were there so many alliances in WWI? The reason why alliances were established were because if one country in need of aid or war effort the allied country could assist them. In many aspects of WWI these alliances proved to be effective in helping one country in need of supplies or other various rations(Document A). For Example Russia had endless supply of soldiers, while Great Britain had he strongest navy in the world (Document C). So therefore Russia would help out Great Britain with soldiers while Great Britain could help Russia with fights in the ocean.…
This also leads to the invention of submarines by the Germans during World War I. Imperialism was also one of many causes of World War I. Imperial competition causes alliances between countries to form. The two main alliances which fought in the war were the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance also known as the Central Powers. Before the start of World War I, countries’ military has been getting stronger. This is what fueled alliances to form due to the paranoia created by neighboring countries strengthening. The Germans have especially gotten stronger due to their massive military and their technological and weaponry advantages.…
There were many different alliances formed, but the main two were Great Britain, Russia, France, and independent states- known as the Triple Entente- and Germany, Ottoman Empire, Austria-Hungary, and Italy -known as the Triple Alliance. Although alliances help in war time, in times before war they were not as beneficial. They even helped cause World War I because it allowed smaller nations in alliances to behave carelessly. One example of this is the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the effects it had. Franz Ferdinand was archduke of Austria-Hungary and was killed by a Serbian scholar.…
