How Did Beethoven Become Deaf

Ludwig van Beethoven was born on December 17, 1770 and died on March 26, 1827. He was born in Bonn, Germany. Beethoven’s father was a bad alcoholic and while in his teens, his mother passed away and he ended up having to take charge of his household. Beethoven was a slow composer during his time. He was deaf the last ten years of his life, which was very unfortunate but it didn’t stop him from his passion. He was never married but he did have a bunch of love affairs. While in Vienna, he was his own person; he played his own compositions and improvised brilliantly at the palaces in the city. Beethoven may have been a musical genius but many people say that he was dyslexic. He quit school at the young age 10 to pursue his musical career. He became deaf because he had a constant ringing in his ear that made it hard for him to hear music, he didn’t engage in conversation much because of this. The total cause of him becoming completely deaf is still unknown, but some may say it comes from dipping his head in ice-cold water to stay awake to write music. Beethoven would often times write his friends and tell them about his symptoms. He didn’t know what the cause of his deafness, but it didn’t stop him from doing what he was most passionate about. When he performed his Ninth Symphony, he wasn’t able to hear the applause of his audience so all he could do was weep. That would be a hard feeling to be able to see them applauding but not able to hear it. His last performance in 1811, he wanted to play Piano Concerto No. 5, but he failed, after this, he never performed in front of an audience again. One thing that happened was he was performing; he had another conductor standing behind him conducting the band. He never even realized that the band had quit playing the music until he turned to see the applauding
