Franklin’s first invention was invented in 1742 and was known as the Franklin Stove, much similar to what we call a fireplace today. The fireplace that Colonial’s had in their homes were very inefficient and smoky, but Franklin’s stove was more efficient and gave people another option. The Franklin Stove was enclosed in iron, and provided much more heat, without all the smoke, and also consumed less wood.
