How Did Cabeza De Vaca Survive
Cabeza de Vaca was a very wise man. He was an explorer who got separated from his captain and was shipwrecked on the Gulf Coast. He started a journey that went hundreds of miles to get to Mexico City. Cabeza de Vaca survived because he used resources, befriended Native Americans, and he never gave up. One reason that Cabeza survived was because he used all of his available resources. One example of this is when he saw a burning tree that had been struck by lightning. Most people would avoid it because it would look unsafe, but Cabeza used it to light torches, of which he laid around himself while he was sleeping. Most people would keep them all together, as a heat source, but he put them all in different directions, to prevent attacks from animals. …show more content…
In conclusion, Cabeza de Vaca did things in ways that most people wouldn’t, to save his resources, until he could work with the natives. A second reason that Cabeza de Vaca could survive is that he befriended the natives. An example of this was when he performed surgery on a man who had been pierced through the right shoulder with an arrow and the tip of the arrow “rested over his heart.” This gave him a reputation as a very wise man. The final reason that he remained alive was that he never gave up. He spent over a year and a half trekking more than a thousand miles through Mexico, searching for help from the natives along the way. Also, he had a very limited food supply at times, which forced him to eat whatever he could find. Because he used resources, befriended natives, and never gave up, Cabeza de Vaca was able to survive. He was smart and always did what it took to stay alive. In conclusion, Cabeza de Vaca always survived no matter what happened to him. Cabeza de Vaca was a very wise man. He was an explorer who got separated from his captain and was shipwrecked on the Gulf
