It was easier to convert people to Islam because of their philosophy was persuasive, they were treating people fairly, they didn’t have any class system, and their teachings were about peace as the word “Islam” itself means peace. The army conquered lands, took over fallen empire, and converted the people into Islam. “By 750...Muslims had advanced across North Africa into modern-day Spain and Portugal and extended their reach to the Aral Sea and the Silk Road city of Samarkand.” (Prothero 40). The Muslim empire went through great expansion. I think the major key to the Islamic expansion was their military. They conquered lots such as the Greeks. They conquered all who rebelled against them. One way military helped with Islamic expansion is by conquering others around the world and teaching them of the Islamic religion. By conquering others this expanded and increased the Muslim empire and population. According to Document A “The battle they fought at al-Yarmuk was of the fiercest and bloodiest kind. In this battle 24,000 Muslims took part”. This is an example of how military helped Islamic expansion. Another way the military helped Islamic expansion was according to Document C “ Individuals were required to embrace…

Some could say that what contributed to the rapid spread of Islam are their Muslim leader and his god Allah. Socially Muhammad contributed by spreading his visions and new religious beliefs. As he became more known people started to accept his beliefs and visions. Which would later help build an army for the Islamic people to fight for the name of Allah. This also didn’t help either though as he began to gain enemies who weren’t very fond of beliefs. Thus leading him to leaving to go to Medina known as the hijra. Were he ultimately becomes the leader of Medina were the people are more of a receptive audience and this is where his followers becomes very populated. Politically Islam had the upper hand, Byzantine and Persia having been exhausted by the protracted conflicts made them both vulnerable. As Muhammad taken over lands from Byzantine and Persia he began to take in more people, growing his army, society, and religious beliefs.…

The main reasons of Islam spread so quickly in the 7th and 8th century are because of the Muslims were unified together at the time, and some nearby empires, such as Byzantine became weaker as a result of war and diseases, and also Muslims showed religious tolerance to the non-Muslim people. Islam is shown to spread quickly because of the Muslim’s respect toward other people’s religion. J.J. Sounders (Doc # 5) states, “ Mohammed respected the older monotheistic faiths… he called them “People of the Book”… they were not forced into Islam but were allowed to retain their ancestral religion on payment of tribute.” J.J. Sounders states that Mohammed respected other religions, which, in turn, allowed the Islamic civilization to grow. J.J. Sounders also states that Mohammed allowed other people to keep their faith by paying a tribute; this also shows respect toward other religions by the Muslims. Mohammed himself asks other people that are not of the Islamic belief to pay tribute and be spared (Doc #1). Mohammed respects other beliefs by giving the non-Islamic people options which included an option to just pay a tribute instead of attacking them without warning just because they were of another belief.…

Although it met much resistance in the city of Mecca at first, the religion grew and Muhammad was seen as a prophet of Allah. After Muhammad’s death in 632 CE, all of his teachings were recorded in a book called the Qur’an, and the religion continued on to spread. Within 100 years of Muhammad's death, Islam had spread past the Middle East and went to other continents, such as, Africa, Asia, and Europe (Background Essay). There were four specific reasons for the spread of Islam. The First reason was because of the Quran (the holy book of Islam). The holy Quran influenced millions of people because of its beauty and style. The second main reason of its spread was the personality of the prophet Muhammad. He was very truthful and trustworthy. People found no fault in him making the personality of the prophet very diluted to Islam. The third main reason for the spread of Islam was the strong faith of the early Muslims. There have been many religions that have been created across the world since man has been here. Islam was started by a man named Muhammad he created what is now Islam in or around 622 A.D. He started as a merchant that worked in Mecca and then left the city for 13 years while he was wandering he had visions that God was talking to him and telling him to form a new religion. He then came back to Mecca and started to preach to the people there. Mecca at the time was mostly polytheistic, and while preaching to them very few converted to Islam. The people of Mecca finally ousted Muhammad and his believers and they traveled to Medina, north of Mecca. There Muhammad and his believers would convert thousands, after that Muhammad went back to Mecca to invade it. After invading Mecca and converting those who hadn’t died or exiled to Islam he had the holy city of Islam. Since that time Islam has grown at a rapid rate, expanding quickly to invade every nation on earth. Of the world’s major religions, next to Christianity, Islam has had the greatest impact on the modern world. Islam has changed the world over; the faith has affected the world politically, religiously, through technology, culture, and military.…
