Christianity has influenced history by teaching people how important it is to preach mercy and sympathy for the poor and sinners. Christianity has taught millions of people around the world that it is important to help the poor and forgive the people who sin. Many of jesus’s teachings stress the role for caring for the poor. Christianity's attitude toward charity had a direct impact on the Roman Empire. Emperor Constantine, who was christian, gave money to churches to support poor people and their families. From there, the churches used the money they received to continue their charitable efforts. The concepts of charity later carried on through the middle ages. For example, many of the ideas that built the American Constitution were based off biblical doctrines. The idea from the constitution that says “All men are created equal” is a concept directly from the bible. Not only is the constitution somewhat based off the bible, most of the people that signed the constitution were Christian. Another reason why Christianity has influenced the Government is the phrase on money “In God We Trust.” This phrase is on all paper money and coins in the United States and has become the country’s motto.
