Christopher Columbus started the slave trade. He demanded the Lucayan’s to give his men food, gold and sex. He didn’t get the gold he wanted so he didn’t have to come home empty handed he sold five hundred Lucayan’s. Another five hundred Lucayan’s we enslaved and kept in the New World. Christopher Columbus obviously thought the Lucayan’s were gullible when he wrote in his journal… “a hundred castellanies as easily obtained for a women as for a farm, and it is very general and there are plenty of dealers.” …show more content…
He brought diseases such as small pox and wiped out a little more than half the native population. If the natives didn’t die from disease, they died of starvation anywhere from 3-5 million. Many children died because their mother were over worked, starved and had no milk for the baby’s. these poor human beings were being purposely killed and couldn’t do anything about it. Christopher Columbus wrote another journal entry.. “ I could conquer the whole of them with 50 men and govern them as I pleased.”
