The people in this period were usually hunters, fishers, and gatherers of supplies necessary for them to survive, but they were not producers of food or other resources. They learned to make use of sophisticated tools of stone and perishable materials like wood especially in building furniture and houses; they also learned to make and control fire needed in cooking or as their light; and they developed language skills and the ability to use it to pass on what they had learned. Paleolithic society was characterized by a division of labor by sex. Men most likely do hunting, fishing, and fighting other families, clans, and tribes in order for their lives to be preserved and to survive. Women are less mobile because of childbearing, so they most likely gathered nuts, berries, and wild grains, wove baskets, and made clothing useful in their living and can also be helpful in providing them money through selling things. When a woman gathers food products, she then discovered how to plant and care for seeds and the knowledge from it then led to agriculture and thus, started the Neolithic Revolution. Because the shift to agriculture come together with the developments and advances in stone tool technology— the development of greater precision like chipping and grinding—this period is called the Neolithic Age or the “New Stone”. There are many and different types of contributions that early civilizations have made to today’s society and gave a great impact in modern developments. For instance, the Phoenicians are the ones who originated or contributed mostly of the Alphabet that we use today. The Asiatics, Phoenicians and Greeks all revised their writing systems and give contributions to give us our present-day alphabet that is very useful in learning. The advances and innovations of Egypt have greatly assisted our society today like the advances in their political systems which allowed Egyptians to remain powerful for almost 4000 years. The Egyptian government was first centralized authority that is dated and this allowed them to organize huge projects such as the Great Pyramids, and to utilize the Nile River and preserving for the benefit of the people and the economy like using it for irrigation of crops and water for town people. Today, our government allows us to have an army, to voice out our opinions, and other freedoms like having the freedom or right to choose leaders of the country and voicing out the needs of the people, showing the thirst to achieve justice and equality.
