During the change between the ancient period to the modern age, population was critical for the cities and countries, because the rulers needed someone to grow their food as well as domesticate the animals that gave them food, wool for clothes or skins for decretive pieces in the house of the richer population of the kingdom/civilisation. Inventions were created as an outcome of merchants needing to carry everything they wanted to trade or sell. These inventions would include; wooden wagons/carts, wheels, and trailers. The merchants would make these or buy/trade things to get them, they would use these as it makes everything a lot easier to carry. As well as it being easier to carry, the merchants could carry more goods to trade. Now that people have started to trade, different items now have different types of value. This would mean that people in other civilisations want objects/goods that another civilisation has. For example Rome has wood that they are trading, and a merchant wants wood to sell to someone who will pay a good price for it. This means that the wood has a new found value. The trading of slaves was very big in the Ancient Rome era, so lots of rich people (i.e. Rulers and ruler’s family) bought slaves. People bought slaves because they have to do what they are told or they get punished. Slaves were also not thought of as citizens and didn’t have many rights and were thought of as possessions not people. People also bought animals, food and other valuables.
