I transformed the economy with my invention of the cotton gin and revolutionized manufacturing with my idea of interchangeable parts.
My birthday falls on December 8, 1765 and my death date falls on January 8, 1825.
I was born into a family of farmers and was the eldest child out of 3 of my siblings. My mother passed away when I was 11 years old and I didn’t get along with my stepmother growing up.
I attended Yale University in 1789 to study law and graduated in 1792.
Intentionally, I wanted to make a profit off of my cotton gins but the simpleness of the machine and the large number of pirated machines already in the market made it impossible for me. Frustrated with the lack of
money I was making, I decided to start a career of making firearms. I failed miserably at first but I was able to influence modern manufacturing greatly when I came up with interchangeable parts.
I, Eli Whitney, am the man who made a huge difference in society with my cotton gin and interchangeable parts.
