Feudalism started spreading
At the beginning of medieval age in Europe, based on a feeble resource of data, it is believed that between 80‐90% of the economic activity was agriculture. Nearly everybody therefore, earned a living through agriculture as an economic activity. The economic structure prevailing then became known as Feudalism, a term which has come to mean, an economic system based on Lordship (ownership) of vast Land (also known as the ‘manor’ or ‘estate’), owned by a senior lord, who gave the right of cultivation (fief) to a lower rank of people called the vassals, who in return paid a stipulated amount from the harvests or from services rendered or ‐ later on ‐ through money, to the Lord of the manor. The vassals also received security from the lord of the manor. The origin of feudalism is sometimes traced back to the expansion of the Roman Empire. In Italy for instance, there were present large portions of land owned by Roman soldiers who had received the allocation of land in return for military services rendered to the Caesar. There also existed ownership of large track of land in Gaul before the Roman…
The feudal system is a very big system, filled with rich history. Society was dependent on the feudal system, it was the modern legal system for roughly 1600 years through out Europe, in use from 300 A.D to 1400. The Feudal system was based on allocation of land in return for service. The feudal system could be organized in layers and is often looked at in a diagram of a pyramid, with the most honorable and looked after people were towards the top of the pyramid, and the common people towards the base. There were several groups within this pyramid, varying in distance from the top of the pyramid and base, each group under the highest authority was a vassals to the groups directly above them, this meaning that they swore loyalty to them. The…
Under feudalism there was a noble (lords), vassals (knights), and workers (peasantry) (The Legacy of the Roman Empire and the Middle Ages in the West, 2012). The lords were usually large land owners, since there was no central government to provide protection they needed some. The vassals were usually knights that provided this protection in return for land. The vassals would then divide their lands amongst peasants in return for labor and military service when called upon. Once again instead of a central authority, Europe was broken down into several smaller ones.…

This social structure became known as the feudal system. In most of medieval Europe, society was dependent on the feudal system. It typically consisted of kings, lords, peasants, and others who held influence in the kingdom. The king claimed ownership of the land, and provided fiefs (land) to nobles, called lords, in exchange for loyalty to the King. Lords lived on a manor and controlled a large amount of land. They provided income…
Feudalism began in France around A.D. 900 and spread. The feudal hierarchy was an arrangement of rank resembling a pyramid. At the top of the pyramid was the king. In the feudal relationship the king was the suzerain, or lord, of a group of dukes and counts who were his vassals. Each of these vassals was in turn lord to lesser vassals, who had even less important vassals. At the bottom of the pyramid were the knights, who had no vassals. Lord and vassal owed certain obligations to each other. The vassal pledged to perform certain services for his lord, and in return the lord granted him a fief, or fee.…
Feudalism was the main governing system in Europe and other parts of the world in the Middle Ages. Feudalism consisted less of a centralized governing power but instead was power over land or lands spread out through the nobility. The Feudal system dealt with all political and military affairs during the middle ages and had more of a focus on the business relationships held between two individuals of power. The 'feudal system' is the name for a power structure where people held their land in return for promising loyalty, known as doing homage, and providing services such as working or fighting for their lord" (The Feudal System and the Domesday Book). This is how the majority of kingdoms in Europe were ruled during this time.…
Europe changed during the Medieval ages by downgrading the life of an average person with the use of the feudal system. In Medieval Europe, the Feudal system was introduced to classify citizens. At the top of the feudal pyramid was the King who claimed ownership of the land and gave fiefs to Nobles in exchange. Nobles fell under the Kings and Queens. (Offered protection to the locals through knights in exchange for peasant labor.)…

Feudalism had it's strong and weak points. It's strong points include things like a safer society, if compared to the late Roman empire and to Barbaric invasions. Feudalism divided people who lived to fight from quiet people, who did not want to be involved in wars. Wars were more diffused but seldom involving civilians. They were a problem between nobles. There was more social security; people were linked to their land or work. Somebody could not take land from somebody else without a good reason. The taxes were much lower than that of the late Roman Empire, and nothing if compared to today. The weak points of feudalism were that people were linked to their role; a noble would always have to be a noble, a knight would always be ready to fight, a peasant could no nothing more than to be a peasant.…
<br>Everyone had a place in a feudal society. Below the Monarchs were the most powerful lords-Dukes and Counts- who held the largest fiefs. Each of these lords had vassals in turn they had their own vassals. Sometimes a lord was also a vassal to a more powerful lord but had less powerful ones below him. Because vassals often held fiefs from more than one lord feudal relationships grew very complex. A vassal who pledged loyalty to several lords could have serious problems if his lords quarreled with one and other.…
As feudalism was introduced, society changed. The social classes changed; the king was the top then came church officials and nobles then came knights then peasants. A status of a person in the feudal system influenced a person’s power. Many serfs lived on their lord’s manors and carried out services for him. Feudal lords had armies of knights that protected the lord’s manor.…
Word feudalism was invented in the 17 century by Montesquieu and popularized it in The Spirit of the Laws (1748). In the late eighteenth century people said that feudalism is the privileges of the aristocratic nobility, privileges that provoked the wrath of the bourgeoisie ((McKay, A History of Western Society 259). Later Karl Marx adopted it to other meaning. He thought that feudalism was precapitalistic society. Now people think that feudalism was social and political system held together by bonds of kingship, homage, and fealty and by grants of benefits - lands or estates given by king, lay lord, or ecclesiastical officer (bishop or abbot) to another member of the nobility or to a knight. (McKay, A History of Western Society 270.) However it aren't all meanings of feudalism. Bloch thought that it is a whole system of life centered on lordship. Feudalism was a military society. Men dominated in it. However women was not so significant.…
The Age of Feudalism was when people started to become wiser. A social structure established which kept the peasants protected. A relationship between lords and vassals developed where the kings and lords were on top, vassals below them, knights below them, and serfs on the bottom. They all relied on each other because they all provided for each other. The kings gave the vassals land and vassals gave the knights land and the knights provided protection for everyone. The serfs paid taxes and provided food and services for everyone else. (Document 4) The vassals pledge to the lords that they will provide knights and aid. (Document 2) This social structure worked for everybody because they all had what they needed. The Age of Feudalism ended the dark ages of European history by introducing order to the common person's life.…
