The mountains played a big part in the history of Greece. As an example is that ¾ of Greece was covered in mountains which meant transportation on land was very hard. This affected the Greeks because it made it very hard to trade and it also meant that lots of city-states were very independent or decentralized. Since it was hard getting around on land they went by sea. The sea was an important feature of Greece. Many seas surround Greece as ¼ of Greece is water. Even though they never traveled 85 miles from the cost, they traveled by sea to get to other societies. Also because mountains covered most of Greece, only 20% of Greece had suitable farmland. This meant that they could not support a large population. They as well only had very little fresh water and so they moved a lot so that they could find more land to live on. In the end, they were heavily relied on trading to get their resources that they needed daily. As a result Greeks were able to face these challenges straight on. Water was one the most important land feature as it is how their culture developed and merged with other cultures. One they had access to the Red Sea, Blue Nile, White Nile. This allowed them to trade with others and spread ideas.Since they traded so much they really never realized on farming. The reason for this is because of their hilly terrain. The way they solved this is by using terraces to help maintain water so that they could grow wheat and barley.When they traded they had lots of valuable resources like gold and emeralds. They traded with lots of different places which gave them lots of resources that they couldn't get here like glass and olive oil. Aksum Empire succeeds in all of these things because they were able to adapt and overcome challenges they faced. They were able to overcome the hill surface or find ways to get new ideas and goods from other places. This all proves that Aksum was a successful empire. All of these empires were able to survive and grow due to the environment they were presented in. They were able to find little loopholes that let them strive and develop into advanced societies which were all capable of overcoming the land.
