The Persian wars are a monumental milestone in battle tactics and one of the most influential wars in history. Not only this but they have had a huge impact on the world we live in today. We as a whole are defined by world history and the Greco-Persian wars can be argued to have had the most significant effect.
The Greco-Persian wars have a deep significance on western culture. This applys in almost all means of our lives. Not only would democracy, art, philosophy be almost undoubtedly lost if the Persians had conquered Greece but the entirety of how we live would be different. Westernised culture may have been still living in a dictatorship by a monarchy we had no part in choosing. Everything we are as a whole may have been completely wiped from existence. Yet the Greeks did win. From this we have gained theater that spawned from those such as Aristophanes with one of his surviving plays the Clouds (423 bc), a comedic satire directed against Socrates. Both at the battle of Marathon with the Athenians outnumbered 3-1 coming out victorious against the unbeatable Persians and the Battle of Salamis where the Greeks fleets lured the Persians into a narrow strait and slaughtered their army.
