How Did Greece Contribute To Westernization

It is impossible to mention Greece without talking about Ancient Greece. Ancient Greece has contributed to many of the factors of westernization. For instance, it is the birthplace of philosophy. We all know the about Aristotle, Socrates, and Plato's, the big three when discussing philosophy, and they all originated from Greece. Furthermore, many other academics that cultivate the modern society originated from Greece. For example, literature, mathematics, history, art, and drama. All of these subjects were created, learned, and taught by Greece to the rest of the world. Lastly, Greece founded the Olympic Games and to this day it is still played. One important concept flourished from Greece and it has molded many societies, democracy. Democracy
is a political system in which there is an equal share of power among individuals in a organization. Historians have traced back democracy all the way to the 6th century B.C.E. in Greece. This form of democracy was primarily based off the right to vote. Cleisthenes a leader during Ancient Greece invented democracy, “demokratia,” or rule by the people as it is defined. Demokratia was built around three forms of institution: a ekklesia, a governing body that created laws and dictated foreign policy; the boule, a council of a representative from each of the ten tribes; and the dikasteria, a court where people argued over their conflicts in the presence of lottery-selected jury. Demokratia is very similar to the form of democracy we see today.
