How Did Gregor Samsa Change
When I awoke one night from my dreadful nightmares, I found myself changed into an android. Was this similar to what Gregor Samsa experienced in “The Metamorphosis? Surely not, how could we possibly be experiencing the same thing? After all, he had turned into vermin, a parasite who had only caused his family problems while I … I was still human, right? I mean I still had the facial features of a human and a body the shape of regular humans, and I certainly did not cause trouble for anyone. But why did I feel different inside? That’s when I realised that we were not so different after all, me and Gregor were pretty much going through the same thing - dehumanization.

In Gregor’s instance, he was dehumanized not only physically but also mentally. His once normal human look had been turned into that of a repulsive and unattractive bug-like creature while his actions showed that he had no longer followed human behavior. On the other hand, I was still looking

His father who had previously treated him as a money making machine had now completely ignored the fact that he was still human inside and did not care if any of his actions had hurt Gregor or even killed him. Gregor’s behavior had also changed drastically, from one of a normal human being’s to that of a bug. His once favourite drink and a drink that was seen as normal in the eyes of humans, milk, was now something that he had detested. Instead, he opted for the revolting old and half-rotten vegetables, a piece of cheese which he had previously deemed inedible for a human, other scraps and leftovers. These actions, coupled with his inability to communicate with his family had led to his alienation as they could no longer see him in the same light again as a regular and ordinary human being and thus could not treat him the same way which they had treated Gregor when he was

In Metamorphosis Gregor Samsa felt insignificant and useless before he went through his metamorphosis, later in the book he transforms into a cockroach, a hated and viewed as a very repulsive bug by humans. This shows what he felt about himself about how he thought others perceived him. Since how Gregor is a bug and is unable to talk it gives a greater insight to how he feels and what he is thinking. This gives him as a bug more character and depth than the other people in the story who should have more thoughts and emotions about the things going on in his life and his families such as how the are adapting to his change and how they feel about his new appearance “Was he an animal, that music could move him so?” Part III, pg. 49…

These changes can be for good or bad. In “The Metamorphosis”, by Franz Kafka the protagonist, Gregor Samsa suffers a significant change. This novella is about a young man who has taken care of his family during the last five years. His life was limited to work and care for his family. None of the members of his family were used to work. In this family had to happen something really bad, so they can notice that they have to do something for themselves. The nature of Gregor’s reality changes insignificantly in spite of his drastic physical changes. Gregor’s metamorphosis leads an important change in the members of his family. Kafka writes in part two “Did he really want the warm room, so cozily appointed with heirlooms, transformed into a lair, where he might, of course, be able to creep, unimpeded, in any direction, though forgetting his human past swiftly and totally?” This is the point of the story when Gregor starts to come to terms with his new life as an insect. He has not completely and totally let go of human emotions, but he has started to accept his new body and embrace his new abilities. Gregor starts to feel torn between the choosing the insect life and the human life, as he still has a desire to help provide for his family, and into part three his desire turns to shame when he realizes that he financially and mentally burdening his family.…

As an illustration, Gregor Samsa was turned into an insect and when his family saw him for the first time, the book stated that “his father clenched his fist with a hostile expression, as if he wished to push Gregor back in his room…” (Kafka 33). Gregor’s horrific appearance caused his own father to feel compelled to hurt him and lock him away. Gregor still had the same beliefs and feelings as he did when he was a human, but since his father could not look past the way he appeared, all he wanted to do was hurt Gregor. Gregor loved his family as much as an insect as he did as a human, but his family could not reciprocate the…

Today I found my LOC story at the pool. We had a bunch of things going on today such as master swim, swim lessons, lap swimming, and recreational swimming for the kids. I stopped by to talk with Pamela Harvey, one of our parents who consistently has her kids in swim lessons. I was happy to see her registered again for lessons. This time when I saw her, I asked why she registers and stays a member of the Y. It’s funny because she said exactly what I would want her to say. She explained that she loves the Y because it’s a good place for the family. It being Christian based was important to her. She even talked about why she likes our mission. This one thing stood out to me when she said, “everyone is friendly and I can tell they care about the…

In the novel by Franz Kafka, “The Metamorphosis” one could say that there are many causes which leads to Gregor Samsa’s alienation. In examining Gregor’s alienation one has to review causes both before and after his metamorphosis. One has to note that Gregor could only be alienated by his family because he had no friends or significant other. Before Gregor’s metamorphosis the primary reason for his alienation was his job as a traveling salesman and the unfulfilling work schedule he had to maintain. After his metamorphosis Gregor’s physical appearance ultimately leads him to be isolated and alienated from his family. Although there are many reasons for Gregor’s alienation, his lifestyle and dedication to his family leads to his alienation and tragic demise.…

Gregor's transformation absurdly exaggerates his shape, voice, and senses to exemplify how his physical mutation into a vermin and inarticulate struggles represent his alienation from society. "When Gregor Samsa woke up, [...] he found himself changed in his bed into a monstrous vermin" (Kafka 2). Because Gregor perceives himself of having the lowest form of life, it becomes appropriate for him to transform into a mammoth insect, instead of any other animal. Gregor's "painful and uncontrollable squeaking mixed in with the words could be made out at first but then there was a sort of echo which made them unclear, leaving the hearer unsure whether he had heard properly or not" (Kafka 4). His inability to communicate with the family does not allow him to express any of his own personal needs and thus leaving him to fail in living his own life. Gregor "perceived things with less clarity, even those a short distance away: the hospital across the street [...]was not visible anymore" (Kafka 21). His range of vision literally becomes smaller and his new and more suitable state as an insect allows his one track minded nature of only perceiving what is necessary for his family more appropriate. Although Gregor's human form represents the norm, his selfless mentality and meaningless existence isolates him physically from society.…
