The television, an item estimated to be accessible by more than half of the population (Nielsen Estimates 115.6 Million TV Homes in the U.S., up 1.2%), has had a large impact on American society. By receiving radio waves carrying visual and audible data, it allows for information and ideas to be shared in a way that appeals to the sense of sight as well as hearing and allows for a more engaging experience. This links the American population and as such has an effect on society as a whole. Hertz’s invention has also led to the creation of frequency modulating radio. The radio, like the television, allows ideas to be shared over long distances, although lacking the ability to transmit visual data (Radio). Through radio music, talk, and news can be transmitted, making it important to society. The radio has also played an important role in supplying information to victims of natural disasters that are seeking aid or events during a …show more content…
A more scientific contribution of Hertz’s research is seen in radio telescopes. Since many interactions in the universe cannot be seen in the visible light part of the electromagnetic spectrum, various telescopes, such as the radio telescope, have been created to detect the effects of these events in other portions of the electromagnetic spectrum (Electromagnetic Spectrum). This is important for observing objects that cannot be seen by the human eye but can be indirectly observed through their effects on their surroundings. These readings can then be used to form or prove theories related to celestial bodies involved in the events. Heinrich Hertz is the most influential person to American society because his overall contributions to devices is seen and used regularly today. It is through his studies that cell phones, radio, wireless internet, and television exists. Through these devices, American society has been shaped into an advanced society in which technological advances are constantly made and music, along with other media, is created and shared every
