The following is an excerpt from the first volume of Dalai Lama´s book on Shugden.
" I, the 14th Dalai Lama, committed the first mistake of coming in contact with Shugden. I did not follow the path shown by the previous Dalai Lamas. It was my mistake. Well, the political situation in Tibet was at the most critical stage in 1951. We were staying at Dungkhar monastery in Dromo region. Within my entourage, some who advised me to leave for India, while there were others who thought that it would be better to return to Lhasa. The mediums of the state oracle Nechung and Gartong were not present amongst the group. Dromo Dungkhar monastery had the medium of Dorjee Shugden available for the invocation of both his wrathful and peaceful aspects. During the procedure of the Invocation Ceremony, The short guru yoga, "Hundred Deities of Joyful Land" was chanted with the melody of Takpo Dorjee Chang. He looked very impressive in monk's robe and a yellow hat. He turned toward me and did prostration, virtually throwing himself in front of me, like a falling tree. The medium, through whom Shugden communicated with me, was not an educated man, but once he was in a trance, he made some prediction quite accurately. At one stage of our conversation, Shugden told me eloquently that he sought the permission of Lama Tsongkapa in the pure realm of Gaden to come here. When we were preparing our return to Lhasa, my desire to consult him increased. We celebrated the invocation of the wrathful aspect of Shugden in the main temple of the monastery. Afterward, I offered
