Ferdinand and Ida had four children together. However as busy and hard as Ida worked to be a good mom she never stopped being committed to fight for justice for everyone. In 1898 Ida brought her anti lynching campaign to the White House which led to protests in Washington DC. Ida also called for president William McKinley to make reforms.
During her life Ida B Wells helped make many changes in the world. She established several different Civil Rights organizations. In 1896 Ida formed the National Association of colored women. Ida is considered a founding member of the NAACP which is the National association for the advancement of colored people. However later on she left the organization because she felt the organization was lacking action. Another great thing she did was create the first African American kindergarten in her community.
Unfortunately Ida got sick and ended up dying from kidney disease. She passed away in Chicago Illinois when she was just 68 on March 25th 1931. Ida fought against prejudice no matter what the consequences may be. Ida said “ I felt that one had better die fighting against injustice than to die like a dog or a rat in a trap”.
