How Did Jamie Raines Impact My Life
“Be yourself; everyone else is already taken” a very true and meaningful quote said by 19th century playwright Oscar Wilde. Over the years, many people come and go in your life. Some leave a positive impact, others leave a negative impact, but, if they are someone important, they will always leave a lasting impression on who you are as a person. Since Jamie Raines has helped me learn that it’s okay to be different, that I should accept myself for who I am, and has taught me that who I am is who I am and that I should be proud of that, Jamie Raines has made a huge impact on my life. To begin, Jamie Raines, an internet star, has helped me to learn that it is just fine to be different. In his videos Raines talks about his struggles and the realities of being part of the LGBT community. From this I have gained so much, I have been able to see that being different isn’t all that bad, in fact it is almost always amazing. He has also shown me that even if people don’t like you for being different that’s okay. In my life this has made such a big difference, Raines has taken me from struggling with the idea that, maybe I am a little different than a lot of people to, of course I’m different I’m me and there is no other way that I would have it. …show more content…

Before I found his videos I was attempting to cope with the idea that I may be homosexual. After finding his videos and finding out more about who he was and what he has gone through in his life I was able to accept who I am much, much more than I was able to before finding him. With him I have also been able to learn to love myself. In Raines’ videos he teaches that while it may be hard to love yourself, there is always a way to do it. Raines has taught me so much about loving myself for who I am, and never giving up who I am to be what society wants me to be and that has made one of the biggest impacts in my

The movie Rain Man has always been and will always be one of my favorites, even though I was very young the first time I saw this movie and when it was released in 1988. The very first time I viewed Rain Man, I was in my late teens and had an overwhelming affection and attraction to the movie, and what it was all about. Perhaps that is why or what my fascination with psychology and my wants to go into the field at an early age began with. Rain man had so many messages one could derive from it, so it's hard to choose just one. However, acceptance is the boldest, most memorable message I took from Rain Man this last time I watched it.…

Like the narrator in the story I also tried to change who I was to be noticed. The narrator tried to hide his love for fishing while I tried to change my clothing style. I eventually realized that it wasn't worth making myself unhappy. I didn't like who I was and that is what matters most. I learned that if someone doesn't like me for who I am to begin with then there is no point in changing myself to make them like me.…

Going through a vast amount middle school groups and high school groups has helped me discover my current identity; what I admire, how I identify myself , and how I act. A funny, positive, random, and one lively human being. It started off with me trying to fit in groups into middle school that required inferior like grades, being disrespectful, and smoking weed. High school is when I met people that completely transmuted my life; friends that understood me. These are all the things that Harvey Milk did to fight for gay people’s rights. Even though they were socially and legally discriminated he didn’t lose hope about settling equal rights for gays. This was how Harvey Milk took a stand to challenge the rules. Many other people also took a stand to challenge the rules in many other ways. But this was how Harvey Milk did it. There is a very thin line between the person who you were and the person that you are right now. As humans, we experience millions of events that can affect and change our perspective on aspects throughout the course of our lives. Similar to caterpillars, we cannot be innocent and childish forever. There is a time for everybody to transform into something beautiful, and everybody’s time is different. Change can be good or bad, but most importantly, change helps us grow and become the people we were meant to be. How are we supposed to mature and enjoy our lives if we cannot accept the differences that life presents? For many people, metamorphosing is difficult because sometimes it can be a challenge to let go of something that was always a part of ourselves, such as letting go of a teddy bear, or a blanket, but for other people, it can be almost instantaneous.…

Imagine yourself waking up every morning and realizing that you have to literally avoid death from the moment you wake up till the time you are supposedly safe at home. Imagine that you’re told by many people, who you love, that you’re a sin and that you will burn in hell. Imagine that everyday the people you thought cared for you turn you away and threaten you if you don't change, for some people that is something they can never even begin to understand, but now imagine it happening to someone for their entire life. Laverne Cox, a transgender woman and actress, gives a powerful speech during ‘Creating Change 2014’ (an organization that brings awareness to the LGBT community) she talks about the violent injustices and police discrimination against the lives of transgender women of color as a way to spread awareness of the inequalities of transgender within the LGBT community to those who feel the T in LGBT isn't as important. Throughout her speech she appeals to the viewer's empathy to those in pain through personal anecdotes and asyndeton sentences.…

I walked on a thin layer of ice in high school; every time someone judged me, I could hear the ice slowly cracking under my feet. My life was in a fragile and brittle state during my junior year. I didn’t have the support of my parents, nor of my closest friends at this stage of my life. My own parents, teachers, and classmates had lost faith in me; to them it seemed as if I had ruined my life and that I would no longer succeed. On the contrary, I was determined to be successful because now I had someone special looking up at me as their role model.…

I realized that I should stop trying to be someone else, becoming apathetic to the athletic social norm that I thought was the only way to live just a year ago. Instead of being confined to conforming to what others did, I started to live life how I felt would be best for me. Engaging myself into new hobbies that I wouldn’t have before, I began to base my decisions on how I felt about it, cutting out how other people would do it. I learned that being yourself and having your own personality is a greater asset than trying to conform to the social norm. That in order to “fit in”, it’s much better to be who you…
