How Did Jasper Johns Influence His Work

Jasper Johns was born during the middle of The Great Depression on May 15, 1930 in Augusta, Georgia, he is currently 87 years old. His education consists of three semesters at the University of South Carolina, then moved on to New York, where he entered a commercial art school in 1949. Here he stayed until 1951, due to the fact he dropped out because his professors didn't think his artwork met the merit of his scholarship. His mother was Jean Riley Johns and his father was Jasper, throughout his childhood he had an rough family life his mother left his alcoholic father, but shortly after she realized she couldn’t support him so she gave him back to his father. Jasper Johns was intrigued and Robert was considered a influence for Jasper, so they set up studios amd supported each other by doing collages and artworks that were used for display by luxury store like Tiffany. Because of this it led him to support his own artwork and he realized that he was going to be an artist forever. Years later the Museum of Modern Art held a Jasper Johns retrospective that stirred great interest in the art world. Occupying two floors of the museum, the exhibition featured 225 works arranged chronologically. Throughout his life, Jasper Johns did not have hope or any confidence in his own artwork. But that changed and he started to have hope again and believe in himself.
