Jazz music has effected society positively and negatively. It was started during a time of cultural divide, in which whites felt superior to blacks. It was started around 1895 by African Americans. It was a mix between African and European music. Most people that have studied the history of jazz agree that it was probably started in New Orleans. It was started by African Americans living in New Orleans. The Creoles, a group of free black people that spoke Spanish and French, lived on one side of New Orleans. They had a extensive knowledge of European music and they had all the characteristics that made them the upper class. They had the best bands in New Orleans and were very proud of it. The other black people living in New Orleans were poor and uneducated. They were combined with the Creoles in 1894 and created jazz music together.
