When discovering my topic on what would interest me related to African American athletes; I came to realize that athlete have major transformations through different ways of motivating one another. Though many athletes are motivated through materialistic items, a number are also motivated through outside sources and personal influence. Jesse Owens was a talented individual that was noticed by his gym coach, just a hard worker, due to that he was asked to join different types of clubs. Jesse Owens is a very successful athlete that brought motivation to other athletes, from his upbringing. He lived by this quote "We all have dreams. of determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort"(Owens, 1992). (if it is a direct quote use quotation marks, , follow with (MLA format). The relationship between a coach and an athlete is very significant to improve an athlete’s motivation towards their sport.
During the mid-20th century not many athletes backed down from competition nor walked away from motivational speeches.
Jesse Owens born and raised (where) less fortunate than many. He was a son of a sharecropper and a grandson of slaves. Growing up in a small community, he didn’t have a lot of advantages due to the lack of opportunities provided for African Americans. As a result, his motivation stemmed from prior athletes in his community. Many of these athletes, accomplish greatness through these determination and strides through adversity. Jesse Owens himself was very well respected. Owens gym teacher asked Jesse if would like to be on the track team, because he noticed his hard work ethics but because Jesse had to work after school, he was not able to join the team. Jesses coach told him as long as he continued to work hard he would be willing to offer to train Jesse in the morning before school, and Owens took him up on the offer. Buy the coach believing in Jesse he believed in himself, even though he knew that he was an even sick child, also his coach brought him breakfast every morning so he would keep up his strength and not get sick so often. Jesse trained so hard and motivated his team to the point that not he was noticed but his whole team was recognized by the whole town. (found the article,

Opportunities from African American athletes in collegiate athletics have drastically changes over time. Personally, being able to run with different ethics is amazing because, you get to engage with one another and see the different levels of competition between each individual. Jesse Owens didn’t let the hype and bandments of the color negativity stop him from being motivated. Actually, Jesse Owens never thought about being an athlete growning up until his high school track and field coach told him he should take his talents to the next level. When Jesse traveled with his team, he had to stay in ‘COLOR ONLY’ hotels. He never let oppression bring him down, he stated that without having motivation he didn’t think he would have made it as for as he did, so he motivated others.(MLA format). Jesse had a mess up Two weeks before the Big Ten Championships in 1935, Owens was engaging in horseplay with his fellow students when he slipped and fell, injuring his back. He was in severe pain in the days leading up to the competition and could not even bend over; his coach almost did not let him compete. But
Owens said that the pain miraculously disappeared, and he set three world records in the 220-yard low hurdles, the long jump, and the 220-yard dash and tied another the 100-yard dash. He told his coach that he didn’t want to sit out because, he was always the one motivating other that he didn’t want to let any of his fans down.
