He made new art forms in his paintings which future artists used. In Milan, he wanted to work with the ruler Ludovico who didn’t hire him until he saw Leonardo’s work. Leonardo had painted The Virgin Of The Rocks which sharp outlines and a “three-dimensional effect like no other artist had ever achieved before.” It was a different masterpiece which set him apart from others. It was also known from his other works how different his techniques were. When making the Mona Lisa, he used “sfumato,” which produced an effect that makes the outer edges of the objects of people in the painting slightly foggy. He used the Chiaroscuro Technique in Madonna of Carnation (also seen in The Virgin Of The Rocks). This technique was used to shape objects in two dimensions by capturing the light and shadow of three dimensions. The Mona Lisa is one of his most famous work of art. It stayed in perfect condition even after 4000 years. On the other hand, his The Last Supper didn’t last on the walls too long. It was a painting of Jesus having dinner with his disciples. Leonardo experimented with a style called “fresco.” The artist had to put a plaster on a wall and then “brush onto it water colors” before everything dried.
