Martin Luther King Jr. was a pastor, activist and a humanitarian. King wasn’t interested in following in his dad’s footsteps; however, he later changed his mind and that is when his legacy started and changes were bound to be made. Martin Luther king Jr. was the most influential person to the 20th century of American history because of the major changes that he brought forth to African American citizens in the United States; he helped pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Voting Rights Act of 1965 that let African Americans vote , as well as fighting for social and racial equality. MLK stood for a system among people to be equal no matter if they were a different race or if they came from a different religion; King wanted to achieve this dream in a way of peace and nonviolence. He wasn’t a president or any kind of famous person at the time when he started; he was just another black person that was seen as the lower, no good person from the eyes of white people. The fact that white people thought blacks weren’t as good as them and shouldn’t be treated like them, that never stopped King. He was going to do what he had always envisioned from the start and nothing was going to stop him. This man was a very important, if not the most important man to us today, everybody today knows of King; He is the only person in history to not be a president and have a national holiday. Although King was assassinated on April 4, 1968 he was still able to make some impossible achievements on America today, and without him who knows where or how bad America would be.
