commit suicide. Before college he spent his summer on a tobacco farm in Connecticut; it was his first experience away from segregation in the south. He was shocked to see the relationship betweens whites and blacks in the north. There were many things that led Martin Luther King to rebel.
King led a campaign in Birmingham Alabama to confront the sin of racial discrimination. African Americans in the south were not given the right to vote, even though the 14th and 15th amendment state that anyone born in the U.S. has the right to vote despite their race, color, or previous condition of servitude. King held the Montgomery Bus Boycott because to end the segregation on buses in Montgomery, Alabama. Four days before the boycott had begun Rosa Parks, an African American woman, refused to give up her seat to a white gentleman on a bus; she was arrested and fined. His father and grandfather played a huge role as mentors to King. Morehouse College President Benjamin Elijah Mays taught Martin Luther King and served as a mentor to him. By the mid-20th century, blacks were still forced to use separate public utilities and schools from the superior ones reserved for whites, they suffered constant discrimination in employment and housing, as well as abuse and lynching from some whites, and they were unable to fulfill their right to
vote. Martin Luther King Jr. was a rebel because he went against laws in the south, he also led marches and petitions to end segregation. During King's March On Washington, he gave his “ I Have A Dream” speech which called for an end to racism. On the same day, Rosa Parks was arrested King lead the Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted for over a year and the Supreme Court ruling segregated buses unconstitutional. The SCLC led the Birmingham Campaign which ended Jim Crow laws and public businesses and restaurants became more open to African-Americans. In 1964 when King was 35 he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Martin Luther King transversed the country in his quest for freedom. He has a set holiday on January 15th called Martin Luther King Day, to honor his achievements.On top of his Nobel Peace Prize, Martin Luther King Jr. was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Congressional Gold Medal, and is one of only four non-presidents to be honored with a memorial, which is located in Washington D.C.’s National Park. Martin Luther king Jr. was one of the most powerful and moving civil rights leader America has had; his history in the church and education about civil rights made him rebel against segregation in many parts of the U.S. He went against laws in the south, lead marches and petitions to end segregation. He made justice and peace for African Americans in this country. He played a huge role in civil rights development. Not only being remarkably brave but had peace and patience while doing so, Martin Luther King is honored all over America and still remembered for his role in African American justice.
