The life of Martin Luther King Jr. was a huge benefit to the civil right movement, and helped to change the lives of thousands of people by fighting for equal rights. The definition of civil rights according to Webster's dictionary is “the rights of personal liberty guaranteed to U.S. citizens by the 13th and 14th amendments to the Constitution and by acts of Congress”. One of the awards that king received for his actions in the Civil Rights movement was the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. Martin Luther King Jr believed that he did this not only for his country, but for his family, so they could have the same rights and freedoms of every American.
Martin was born in Atlanta Georgia on January 15, 1929. His father Martin Luther King Sr. was a Baptist Minister, and his mother Alberta Williams King also played an important part in his father’s church. In 1963 King gave his most famous speech “I Have Dream” where over 250,000 demonstrators gathered.
