Michael Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929. He was born a middle child Michael King Sr. and Alberta Williams King. His older sister’s name is currently Christine King Farris. This was a place where African-Americans could use their voice and speak about racism and their troubles. In 1959, King had the chance to visit Gandhi's birthplace. This deeply affected him in his line of work. He was deeply inspired by Gandhi and his work. King mentored Bayard Rustin and after finding out that Rustin had ties of homosexuality and that he was a communist, he was urged by many people to cut ties and go away from him. A movement called “sit-ins” had begun to stir movement of racially segregated lunch counters and for a long time,they were subjected to verbal and even occasionally physical abuse. By August 1960, there were no more segregated lunch counters in 27 Southern cities. King and 37 people went to a store and asked for lunch counter service and were denied. After refusing to leave, they were arrested. Later after being released, he was arrested for violating his probation from a traffic conviction. John f.
