How Did Muhammad Ali Impact The World
Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali is known to be the best heavyweight boxer of all time. His birth name is Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr, but he changed his name to Muhammad Ali. He changed his name to Muhammad Ali because he was a member of the Nation of Islam. I chose him because I didn't know many things about him and I thought it would be interesting to write my essay on a boxer. In this essay I will tell you about who he is and what he has done to impact the world. The day after the championship fight with Liston, Muhammad Ali announced to the public about his conversion to Islam (Bio.com). The public was not happy with his decision. Ali had joined the Nation of Islam, a group led by a guy named Elijah Muhammad who wanted a separate nation for
black people (Bio.com). Since many people found the Nation of Islam's beliefs to be racist, they were angry and disappointed that Ali had joined them(History.com). Up to this point, Muhammad Ali was still known as Cassius Clay. When he joined the Nation of Islam in 1964, he gave up his "slave name" and took on the new name of Muhammad Ali(History.com). Muhammad ali was drafted into the military in April 1967 (Bio.com). He refused to serve in the military because of his religious beliefs, that also prevented him from boxing (Bio.com). He was arrested for committing a felony, and almost immediately stripped of his world title and boxing license(Bio.com). The U.S. Department of Justice pursued a legal case against Ali (Bio.com). He was found guilty of violating Selective Service laws and sentenced to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine (History.com). Even Though he was sentenced five years in jail he was still able to professionally fight. Muhammad ali has inspired millions of people all over the world. He has showed us that anything is possible. He gives people hope and proves that anyone can do any and everything. He gives people courage and faith. He makes fighters out of all of us. This is Muhammad Ali and there will never be another.
