How Did Napoleon Bonaparte Want The American
Napoleon Bonaparte was a French officer who dreamed to have a French colony. Spain was getting tired of the Americans crossing their territory. So when the French wanted the Louisiana Territory, Spain was happy to give their problem to the French. Napoleon wanted to use the Haiti island as a supply base. His dream was destroyed because the African slaves set themselves free and defeated Napoleon's troops.
When Robert R. Livingston, and James Monroe (American ambassador) wanted to buy New Orleans, the French foreign minister (Charles Talleyrand) offered the whole Louisiana territory. The American ambassadors were so excited they considered the offer. Napoleon wanted to make America bigger, so they can have a bigger ally in the war. Jefferson

    In 1762, France gave up Louisiana to Spain, but the secret Treaty of San Ildefonso, allowed the French to reclaim the area for themselves. By 1800, after a confusing Revolutionary period, France once again emerged as a great world power under the leadership of Napoleon Bonaparte.
