This research was occuring during World War II. The drug was desperately needed my a massive quantity of soldiers. Penicillin was needed for the US and British soldiers’ wounds to prevent infections. After a large amount of researches and experiments, they found a way to use penicillin in humans. One can infer, that without this life saving medicine the Allied forces would not have won the war. Penicillin became a widely used medicine that was desperately needed by a large abundance of people. The British could not produce the amount of penicillin wished by people. So, the Peonia Lab began to work on a fermentation method to increase the growth rate of the antibiotic. Thanks to them, the price per dose was decreased making it easier for people to purchase. This cutback on price made it accessible for middle class people to get a hold of this life saving medicine (Bellis 123-124). This monumental miracle medicine has become an immense part of history and still continues to impact us. From its double discoveries to its variety of experiments, penicillin has come a long way. Even to this day lives are being saved from this accidental
