to make Pandora (the first woman) also out of earth and water, and he intended her to be a punishment. Each god and goddess gave Pandora a gift (talent), of beauty, charm, music etc. but also others, like curiosity and persuasion, CURIOSITY – gifts that could be used for good or ill. Pandora was also given a "Jar" and told not to open it and sent to earth. Her curiosity kept building up until she finally gave in and opened it to discover ills for mankind. Everything got out and when Pandora eventually closed the box the only thing that was left was "Hope". Even Hope itself has been argued about by scholars – not everyone agreeing that it is a great good – that maybe Zeus meant it as an evil also – otherwise it would not have been in a jar of evil. Others believe that Zeus may have relented a little, and put Hope in to help mankind through the hard times that the other ‘gifts’ would bring. Today, much like Christianity's idea of biting forbidden fruit, opening Pandora's Box refers to getting into a situation over which one has very little control over.
(Origins of Pandora's Box) Now if you even believe in this myth of not the real dilemma here for many is that did Pandora box really have anything to do will all the evil in the world? Even the immortal Gods from these great Greek myths had their faults. Jealousy, anger, hatred, all the quarrels and all the things that start everything going wrong existed before Pandora opened the box. So is she really the one who brought these pre-existing evils? Humans for all their intelligence have so much curiosity that we forget about the after-math of our actions.
So, for the sake of argument, let’s take a second and forget that you know that box is filled with evils. You have no idea what's inside and you are told not to open it. How many people do you think would not give into their curiosity? We all know it would annoy us to every end to just find out what's inside. Even eve ate the apple with just a little persuasion. Even with the little things our curiosity takes the best of us. How many times have you screamed at the girl in the scary massacre movie to not open the door? But every time there is some noise in the other room you go to check it, because maybe its just your cat getting into trouble. It may as well be a murderer because you have no idea what's making the noise in the other room, just assumptions that can’t be cleared up unless you go and check it for yourself. And this is exactly what "The Pandora's box" stands for now, the not knowing how something will end. In one instance our curiosity has given us understanding of our world and ourselves, but in other it has gotten us in unforeseen troubles. So, saying that our curiosity is good or bad is just not enough. But here I ask again, If you came across a box, any suspicious looking box will you open
it?
