How Did Slavery Influence The American Colonies In The 17th And 18th Century
About 20 slaves were the first African slaves to set food in North America when the English colony settled in 1607. Information provided by History.com, “For nearly 400 years, historians believed they were transported to Virginia from the West Indies on a Dutch warship. The slaves were herded onto a Portuguese slave ship in Angola, in Southwest Africa. The ship was seized by British pirates on the high seas, not brought to Virginia after a period of time in the Caribbean.” As this was the beginning of slavery, it was a practiced thought the American colonies in the 17th and 18th Centuries, and slaves helped build the economic foundations of this country.
