The most noticeable difference, and arguably the one which triggered the later changes, was a massive population increase in cities. I don’t know why they would do this, perhaps the openings for new jobs and need for employment, but there were many changes necessary to account for that many people. The cities became bigger, so they needed more houses. This caused houses to be built closer together and, for the poorer population, more people lived together in a house. This wasn’t very hygienic, and paired with bad sewage systems, could cause streets to be littered with human waste. However this did open up a new job opportunity for shovelling the waste off of the streets. Another change was that the streets were more crowded, which, in a street covered in poo, was not very nice. There was also a higher demand for resources, because everyone needed to be fed and so on. These cities didn’t always have the same opinion, and they definitely didn’t have the same leader. Therefore, war broke loose. War required soldiers, and lots of them, so many more people were employed, especially as every battle hundreds, or even thousands of people died. This brang on a rapid decrease in population but also made them tougher, as it really was survival of the fittest. The leaders had to be stronger than ever to force soldiers into war.
