During the 1400’s, the Spanish conquistadors set out for new lands and a shorter passageway to India, in hopes of becoming more powerful and gain control of the large market for spice trading. In 1521, the Spanish had discovered the Aztec
Empire and wanted to claim the land for themselves. The Aztecs had tried to fight back the best they could. Despite all their technological advancements they were no match for the advanced weaponry combined with the diseases they had unknowingly carried with them. Once Tenochtitlan was surrounded the Aztecs soon fell. There are many ways that the Aztecs were considered ahead of the times, with great talent and were very civilized. The Aztec were skilled architects, engineers, and designers. They had the ability to create and build cities on man-made islands in the middle of a lake, and the Aztecs had built newer temples that surround the old temples. They had amazing farming abilities many other first-class counties did not. The Aztec farmers were able to come up with a method to get water. The water was obtained from the mountains using an early irrigation method. With many advancements in the technology, so did the medicines. With all of the handcrafted gardens, people had gradins with all natural medicine. Though with the Spanish carrying diseases unknowingly, many died. They became infected with smallpox. This raged through the city killing thousands of the Aztec people.
It is often seen that Aztecs should hot have been destroyed, and the Tenochtitlan was a major loss to the time and even modern day. The rate of their advancements was noted as one of the fastest growing. Inferences can be made that if the Aztecs had not all died technology could be growing at a much faster rate. Their contributions to mechanics and architecture are still considered marvels. Many people visit the ruins to see the amazing architecture that still stands.
