British colonization, how it has made our world what it is today. Have you ever wondered how we ended up as free as we are today? Even though the British occupied other peoples lands, Colonization is a good thing because the spread of democracy and freedom and the development of Human Rights. As the British rose to power over Europe and became the financial center of the world, it became necessary to spread the empire around the world to maintain its power and dominants. The British started colonizing the new world in the sixteenth century. And the colonies brought with them English law and customs. Little did those first settler know that the adventure they were on would impact the entire world and bring centuries of stability and prosperity to the whole world. At that time human rights was unheard of, a person was born into a position that most likely would never change. Little value was placed on the lives of the general population of the countries around the world. But the rise of the English would soon turn the …show more content…
tides of human history.
People came to the new world for many reasons According to {2009 Teaching American History in South Carolina Project} “Colonists settled British North America for different reasons. Some came for profits; others came for religious freedom. For those colonies established for profit, the British Crown granted charters to venturing proprietors or joint-stock companies. Yet, whatever the reason for coming, whatever the type of colony, when English settlers arrived they encountered native populations and Spanish and French settlements.” In 1215 King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta, a document that would pave the way for English dominants and democracy. That document is the foundation, 2nd only to the Bible for freedom, peace, and prosperity that would set the world headed to a new golden age. Why was the Magna Carta important to colonization we might ask? (Magna Carta 1215}“Why the Magna Carta was important to the history of America? The Magna Carta is considered the founding document of English liberties and hence American liberties. The influence of Magna Carta can be seen in the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Article 21 from the Declaration of Rights in the Maryland Constitution of 1776 reads:”
"That no freeman ought to be taken, or imprisoned, or disseized of his freehold, liberties, or privileges, or outlawed, or exiled, or in any manner destroyed, or deprived of his life, liberty, or property, but by the judgment of his peers, or by the law of the land." This one document set the stage for the freedom and democracy we have today. As the English colonized each land they conquered, they also brought civilization and raised the standard of living for the natives. Even though generally it was against the natives will. Those lands benefitted greatly by British rule, hunger and warring tribes ceased. Education became common place for every child, even those of the natives. For 400 years British and English rule of these lands brought many blessing the world had not seen in its history. At no time in history had so many lands prospered in so many ways as they did under British rule. It did not matter if you were of another nationality if you were a citizen of the common wealth the education and the opportunity to better yourself and family was a right you had. Never before in human history could that be said. According to Herbert W Armstrong in his book “The United States and Britain in Prophecy” “By the year 1734 the average person living in any of the British colonies had a standard of living that had only been exceeded by the kings and royalty. The average British Citizen lived far better than the citizens of any other county in the history of the world to that time.”
In the process of ruling, the British ether improved the transport system or started new construction of roads and railways to help with the transportation of manufactured goods such as textiles and machines. This new improved transport system greatly improved the movement of goods and people. It became much easier for people to have access to the market and that lead to the spread of free trade. In the book, (British rule and jurisdiction beyond the seas.) “The judicial system was ether improved or established through establishment of British courts of law where disputes and cases could be settled fairly.
In order to incorporate democracy, schools and universities were established, since the native only spoke in their mother tongue, they had to be taught English for easier communication. Christianity was also introduced by the missionaries, who also did some translation of the bible to the native languages. The average person’s life span increased by an average of 20 years. And for the first time since the rule of King David the world was on course to receive the best era in human
history.” Britain also set the standard for the international monetary system. In 1868 only Britain and a number of her economic dependencies - Portugal, Egypt, Canada, Chile and Australia - were on the gold standard which fixed the value of a country 's paper money in terms of gold and obliged its central bank to convert notes into gold on demand. France and the other members of the Latin Monetary Union, as well as Russia, Persia and some Latin American states, were on the bimetallic system, while most of the rest of the world was on the silver standard. By 1908, however, only China, Persia and a handful of Central American countries were still on silver. The gold standard had become, in effect, the global monetary system. In all but name, it was a sterling standard. As Britain became more liberal and started losing the lands it had once occupied, they returned governance back over to the native country men. Once the native people regained power to rule them self’s, with in one generation many of those lands returned to poverty, war, genocide. Most everything that had been built by the English was destroyed and those countries and its citizens now live in terror and starvation. There was a time that the sun never set on the British Empire, this common wealth of nations spanned the entire world it became an Empire that brought freedom, peace, and prosperity to the world. Form the web site {Timelines for the British Empire} “The British Empire lasted for half a millennia and stretched to the furthest corners of the Earth. However, it was not hatched in isolation and was influenced by political, social, cultural, technological and scientific trends from the home country, immediate neighbors, Europe and the wider world. The timelines available here try and put the developments that occurred in the acquisition, running and dissolution of Empire into a wider context. Of course influence worked in both directions and developments in the Empire could and did have a significant impact on the rest of the world. The British Empire joined parts of the world that had never been connected before. It produced enmity and envy but it also produced new opportunities and made available new products and resources to the world market. Soon, settlers and colonial subjects began to make important contributions in the fields of science, culture and technology themselves. In short, the British Empire was not an institution in isolation. It took important ideas from wider European and world culture but it also fed ideas and concepts back into parts of the world that were not flying the Union Jack” Now the Empire is just a shell of its former glory, the world was greatly blessed by the era of British Colonization. America is now losing its role as a super power and world leader, who will take the lead in the 21st century? Will whatever nation that takes the world lead away from the English be as kind or crueler? We have seen both the good and bad views on colonization but the good has far out weighted the bad. History always repeats itself, who will take the lead as the English Nations fall? If we look back at history we see that most likely the world will fall into darkness again. Freedom and liberty will vanish from the worlds view and a new dark age will arise. But we can prevent that by returning to the values and views of a people that changed the world for the better. It is not a race issue, the citizens of the empire where from all nations; it was a world view and moral and ethical duty to save the world. Each of us is here today enjoying a life undreamed of just 50 years ago.
