Many of the GMD troops surrendered to the CCP, bringing advanced weaponry with them. During the Civil War, the CCP used guerrilla tactics to defeat soldiers of the GMD, many of which surrendered to the CCP and taking weapons with them. This made the GMD lose a lot of their army whilst the CCP gained army and weaponry, therefore making the CCP more powerful and the GMD less so. However the GMD kept the landlords in power and were brutal to the peasants that disagreed with them.
