These branches make our country is open to a lot of change. Most of these supreme changes come from the Supreme Court, where cases are reviewed that put aspects of the Constitution into question. Some of these cases include Brown v. Board of Education, where it was deemed unconstitutional to segregate the schools, and some as old as 1824’s case of Gibbons v. Ogden. This case was very important, as it clearly defined the federal government's role in trade between states. This may sound unimportant, but it greatly benefits companies in all states when the federal government is regulating the trade, which in turn improves the economy (“15 Supreme Court…”). However, the Supreme Court isn’t the only game changer, Congress has made many new amendments in the Bill of Rights to further the prosperity of our country. Some of these amendments involve banning slavery, gender equality, race equality, making it possible for foreigners to become citizens, and equal voting rights. Finally, presidents are the last people to make a huge change in our government and how it runs. Our political system lands right in the middle of the political bar, where it has the correct amount of government authority and citizen rights. This refined system we have now is called a representative democracy, where a group of people will represent a group of people. This has been done before, but we have upper hand with a system called bicameral legislation, where there are two houses of state representatives. In our system we have the House of Representatives, where states are represented for their population, and the Senate, where each state gets 2 senators. This gives each state, no matter what size, fair representation in congress. Where bigger states get more representatives, but they have the same amount of senators as small states. This also means that small get a more equal vote in elections, because a group of farmers should have an equal amount of a say as people from the city. If it was a direct democracy (No Representatives) only the large city’s opinion would be heard, and the small communities would be overshadowed. Finally, our government follows the idea of capitalism, which is a system that says anyone can participate in business and has the right to earn the amount they work for.
