Some of the European countries worked with the African countries, but others wanted no part of treaties, and just wanted to take complete control over the certain countries. In Document 1 it states, “ We pledge ourselves not to enter into any war with other tribes without the sanction of the said Royal Niger Company...The said Royal Niger Company agree to pay native owners of land a reasonable amount for any portion they may require…”(Doc 1). The British decided to sign a treaty with multiple African rulers in order for the Africans to have at least some power and not feel like they're just getting controlled. In Document 3 Menelik II, emperor of Ethiopia, states “ We hope that the Christian Powers, advised by our Savior, Jesus Christ, will restore our seacoast boundary to us, or give us at least a few ports along the coast”(Doc 3). This shows how the people of Ethiopia just wanted some of their own land, and they the British, French, Germans, Italians, and the Russians. The responses varied due to the different knowledge and technology and resources the countries had or didn't have. The Imperialism Era affected the world in the economy and in the diffusion of knowledge. Now the effects of the Imperialism Era are still present to this day in Africa, with the low economy of present day Africa, and wide scale
