All the land that was east of the Mississippi River was American land but British fur traders were still being sent into the area. Napoleon Bonaparte was a french monarch who shook up nations from Russia to the American midwest. Napoleon ruled in the aftermath of the French revolution. The federalist party had control over the US until the 1800’s when Thomas Jefferson took over the presidency. When Jefferson replaced John Adams it was considered the first major transfer of power in the US. Soon after Jefferson took office. After Jefferson took office Napoleon made him an offer that Jefferson couldn’t pass up. Napoleon sold Jefferson the entire land east of the Mississippi which came to be known as the Louisiana Purchase.("The Louisiana")
In 1811 William Henry Harrison led a group of US troops into the Battle of Tippecanoe and came out victorious. Congress which some were also called War Hawks which kept pressuring Madison to war. Finally on June 18, 1812 Madison signed the declaration of war against Britain. The Western and Southern Congressmen voted for the war. The commander ordered his fleet to engage the ships. British forces had one day’s worth of supplies left inside Fort Malden which forced the British to attack the Americans for supplies.
