On Oct. 29th, 1929 the stock market crashed and many people was left with huge debits especially those who bought on the margin. During this time the production had went down, more people were unemployed and stocks sold for more than their value is worth. Many millions of shares were sold and billions of dollars lost wiping out the investors, Americans lost a lot of businesses such as, jobs, homes, cars and just about everything. People did just care about everything. People did not have money to buy the things they needed to feed their family . There was no money. During the Great depression the Dust Bowl occurred because of the over planting of crops and drought. Americans in rural areas packed their few belonging and moved out of the cities and moved to the west coast. People were in search of a better life. Children were put to work instead of going to school. People grew their own food, fished and hunted, traded and bartered to survive. Men also left their families in search of their own work. Women worked and children also worked. Living through the depression changed people. They saved everything, hoarded money if they had any, did without, and became self sufficient. Many stood in line to get food from soup from kitchens and bread
