The next change that took place was late. With the discovery of gas extraction came the gas light illuminating the homes of the wealthy and the streets on which they tread. Home lamps didn't become available to all people until the release of the more affordable oil lamp in 1830. The next problems for inventors to tackle were hot and cold. Homes were too cold to be comfortable in the winter and to hot to safely store food in the summer. So they sent out to install heating in homes all over America using a network of ducts and tubes to direct the hot air from the furnace to vents in the different rooms. As for the summer problem, they begin to purchase iceboxes for their homes meaning that the food could be kissed longer and safer from spoiling in making the people sick. However the invention had most impact on communal diseases was the public sewage system. Running water straight into the kitchen and bathrooms was a true exciting that and be able to shower daily was for the first time a possibility.
