In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. This invention was a small remodel of the first underwater telegraph. It has two parts: a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter was composed of three parts: a drum-like device (a cylinder with a covered end), a needle, and a battery. There was only one hole that one would speak into and listen out of. The telephone allows instant long-range communication. This was huge back in the day when the only other way of communication was to either travel far away to speak to someone in person, or write them a letter. Both of these approaches were unreliable and took time. In addition, this invention improved business efficiency and created new jobs. If someone could easily call someone and ask for a product they were selling, they would have more business because of how simple it was to get your information or ideas across. Even though both of these inventions were incredibly innovative, the telephone had more of an influence on today's modern world. Think about how that one invention has changed the current society. Almost every person uses a phone as a day-to-day necessity for communication, navigation, and even
