World War I was supposed to be the “war to end all wars,” but ironically, it was a major contributing factor of World War II. The second World War (1939-1945) tore families apart and claimed millions of innocent lives, mainly Jews. Once Hitler was in power, he orchestrated the murders of over 6 million Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, elderly, poor, and sick in the different Nazi concentration camps. The rise of the Nazi Party was due to the use of strategic propaganda, fear, and playing to the emotions of German people after World War I, which ultimately led to World War II. The Nazi Party, originally called the German Workers’ Party, was founded by a group of unemployed soldiers a year after the end of World War I in 1919. Germany was, quite simply, embarrassed of its defeat and struggling financially. This
Nazi propaganda promised to mend the German economy, which was in shambles after WWI and became worse after the onset of the Great Depression. They also promised to reverse the Treaty of Versailles, something that stated that Germans had to pay for the damage they caused in the war and forced new boundaries upon Germany as a whole. Hitler also claimed that he would be able to decrease the unemployment rate despite the state of the economy, and restore Germany to its “rightful position” as a world power (“The Nazi Rise to Power”). Some of these promises were held to be true, just not in the form most people believed they would be.
Through clever propaganda, the idea of fear, and messing with the emotions of people, Hitler and the Nazis were able to gain power and cause mass destruction all over the world.
